Coat first, style second
Match the groom to the coat.
A short-coated Staffie, a curly Cockapoo and a wire-haired terrier all need different care. Some dogs need only a bath and brush, some need a full clip every few weeks, and some need careful work on knots before anything else. Knowing which group your dog belongs to is the quickest way to avoid paying for the wrong thing.
Choose your path
Six kinds of groom, with prices.
From a quick nail trim to a full hand-stripping session, each guide shows a general price in pounds and the questions to ask before you book.

Full Groom
A full groom is the complete tidy-up: bath, blow-dry, brushing out, a trim or clip to the style you choose, nails, ears and the neat finishing around the face and feet.
£35 to £85 per full groomRead the guide →
Bath and Brush
A bath and brush is a lighter visit than a full groom.

Puppy First Groom
A puppy's first groom is mostly an introduction: a short visit with a gentle wash, a little brushing, a light tidy and plenty of calm handling so the whole experience feels ordinary.
£20 to £40 per puppy introductionRead the guide →
De-matting
De-matting is the careful removal of tangles that have felted into tight knots against the skin, often followed by a reset of the coat.
£30 to £90 per de-matting sessionRead the guide →
Nails and Tidy-ups
Between full grooms, a short visit can keep a dog neat: nails clipped or filed, paw pads and sanitary areas trimmed, and the face tidied so the dog can see.
£8 to £20 per short visitRead the guide →
Hand Stripping
Hand stripping is a traditional technique that removes dead outer coat by hand or with a stripping knife, rather than cutting it, and it keeps the harsh texture and rich colour of wire coats.
£50 to £120 per sessionRead the guide →Rough guides, not quotes. Prices change with the groomer and the dog.

About these pages
Here to inform, not to sell.

Each page ties the advice to local conditions such as shoreline, parks, terraces and wet weather. The details come from public sources, not paid listings.

Eight places, eight kinds of mud.

Good questions
Before you begin.
How much does dog grooming cost in Liverpool?
General estimates run from about £35 to £85 for a full groom and £25 to £55 for a bath and brush. A puppy first groom is about £20 to £40, de-matting £30 to £90, nail clipping £8 to £20 and hand stripping £50 to £120.
How do I get sand and salt out of my dog's coat?
Rinse with fresh lukewarm water after beach walks, then brush through once the coat is dry. A full bath removes what a rinse leaves behind.
Why does my dog's coat mat after wet walks?
Damp hair twists on itself, especially behind the ears, in the armpits and on the back legs. Dry the coat fully and brush it through to the skin.
Is it okay to bathe my dog often?
Most dogs cope with a bath every four to six weeks. Ask your vet if your dog has skin problems.
Can this site connect me with a groomer?
Not at present. There is no form and requests are closed.
When should a puppy have its first groom?
Many groomers like to meet puppies once the vet says vaccinations allow it. A short, gentle visit is best.
